New £206m safari park is set to open this year

New £206m worth safari park is set to open this year in Dubai.

Dubai is already home to the tallest building in the world, the craziest water parks and the first hotel with a full-sized rainforest.

There are also countless indulgent projects in the planning stages including floating underwater villas with spacious rooftop decks, glass-bottomed jacuzzis, plush day beds and external showers.

But the latest project – that's got us booking the first flight out of here – is Dubai's newest safari park.

Set to open in October 2016, the sprawling 119 hectare park will house thousands of animals from all over the world.

The park, which will cost more than £206 million, also features a theatre accommodating 1,000 people, clean energy production park and interactive kids’ play area.

Here are 10 surprising facts about the hotly anticipated attraction:

1. One of the four restaurants will have a view of the cheetah exhibit so diners can watch cheetahs race salukis on a track.

2. Guests will need eight hours to cover the park’s sprawling 119 hectares.

3. The park is now 75% complete ahead of the October soft launch.

4. Project managers plan to build a second phase to the park exhibiting animals from the Americas and Australia.

5. A new hotel will be built on site so guests can spread expansive tours over two days.

6. The safari park has a rock arch with a gap for wild goats to jump overhead as visitors drive underneath.

7. Two theatres will show educational animal shows at the park. The larger auditorium will seat 1,000 people for shows with small mammals such as otters, binturong (mini bear cat) and raccoons. A second theatre seating 300 visitors will hold close encounters with birds and reptiles.

8. The African area will have a host of exotic animals including lions, gorillas, chimpanzees, warthogs, kaarpi alpacas, bongo antelope, dik diks (micro antelope) and a walk-through aviary.

9. Zoo timings will be adjusted in the summer months to stay open into the evening.

10. Dubai Safari will have an underwater observatory for visitors to view pygmy hippos and their young.
