How To Use Video Calls On WhatsApp

Whatsapp

It's been rumoured for months but WhatsApp is finally pushing out its video calling feature.

The world's most popular messaging service says video calling will be arriving on iOS, Android and Windows devices in the coming days.

In a statement on their blog WhatsApp said: "We’re introducing this feature because we know that sometimes voice and text just aren’t enough.

"There’s no substitute for watching your grandchild take her first steps, or seeing your daughter’s face while she’s studying abroad.

"And we want to make these features available to everyone, not just those who can afford the most expensive new phones or live in countries with the best cellular networks.

HOW TO VIDEO CALL ON WHATSAPP:

ANDROID

Once the app has been updated, users will notice a new option when they tap the call button.

Along with voice calls there's now a button for video calls.

Once this is tapped your selfie camera will be activated and a notification sent to the contact to accept the video call.

APPLE

iPhone users will now notice a video icon next to the phone button when they enter a chat.

Tapping this icon will instantly launch a video chat.

Video calls aren't the only new feature arriving on WhatsApp.

The service recently announced that GIFs can now be sent in messages.

If you own an iPhone you can head to the app store and download the update right now - Android users aren't so lucky with update coming to their smartphone soon.

Once downloaded the new version of WhatsApp lets users send and receive animated pictures – as well as convert videos to GIFs directly within the app.
