If you’re not a fan of public toilets in general, plane toilets can be your worst nightmare.
Not only is it an extra-cramped space, there will generally be a queue of fellow passengers waiting for you to finish so they can take their turn.
More often than not, you will try and time your toilet run perfectly so as not to get trapped by the food trolley or get stuck when the plane starts to descend.
On long-haul flights the situation gets even more tricky when you find yourself having to go toilet multiple times.
Luckily, flight attendant Erika Roth has revealed to Travel at 60 the perfect time to take your bathroom break on a flight.
She said the first thing you want to do is to go at this time as generally no one will be waiting in line behind you and you can do your business in peace.
So when is the premium time to go?
“As soon as the seatbelt sign is off, before drink service begins,” Erika said.
While many people might not need to go at the beginning of their flight, this is also the best time to go before other people, term, stink up the lavatories.
She added if this does happen then, “ask an attendant for packets of coffee grounds, then hang them up in the lavatory. The grounds will soak up the odour.”
And if you know your business will be a bit pungent, perhaps ask for the coffee beans before you go in … or risk being like the British Airways flight that had to be grounded because of the smell coming from the bathroom.
“Insane! Our BA flight to Dubai returned back to Heathrow because of a smelly poo in the toilet! 15hrs until next flight… #britishairways,” passenger Abhishek Sachdev Tweeted at the time.
