Rod Stewart Apologies For 'Isil-Style' Mock Beheading

Rod Stewart

The singer was with a group of friends and his wife, Penny Lancaster, in Abu Dhabi, where he is performing on his world tour. During a walk across the sand dunes, he appeared to ask a member of his entourage to kneel, then made a cutting gesture across the man's neck.

Lancaster shared a video of the moment on Instagram and it caused outrage.

David Haines was beheaded by Isil in 2014. His widow, Dragana, said: "I am appalled by Sir Rod Stewart's sick sense of humour. I wonder if he would find it funny if he lost his loved one in such a vicious way."

In a statement, Stewart (72) said: "From re-enacting the Beatles' Abbey Road crossing to spontaneously playing out 'Game of Thrones', we were simply larking about pre-show. Understandably, this has been misinterpreted and I send my deepest apologies to those who have been offended." The video has since been deleted.
