Serena Williams demanded a reporter to apologise after posing a critical question about her performance in the win over Lucie Safarova.
The six-time Australian Open champion snapped when it was suggested it was a 'scrappy performance' in the 6-3, 6-4 win.
The fiery response comes hours after the 35-year-old's sister was the subject of alleged racist remarks. ESPN commentator Doug Adler was highly criticised after likening her playing style to a gorilla.
The reporter surmised that it 'looked a little bit of a scrappy performance,' as reported by the New York Times' Ben Rothenberg , before Serena snapped back.
Serena said: "I think that's a very negative thing to say. Are you serious?"
"Just my observation," replied the reporter.
<>"Well, you should have been out there," Williams said back. "That wasn't very kind. You should apologise. Do you want to apologise?""I do. I'm sorry," confirmed the reporter.
A rule to live by: don't tell Serena Williams she played bad, especially when she definitely didn't. This poor guy. #AusOpen pic.twitter.com/zs5saxmVjl

Williams appeared content after receiving her apology, crediting the former world number five for pushing her.
A third-round match with compatriot Nicole Gibbs is next up in her pursuit of a 23rd singles Grand Slam.
