Mo Farah: Muslim Ban Which Means 'Daddy Might Not Be Able To Come Home'

Mo Farah

His criticisms come after a US judge blocked the controversial measure and as an online petition here soared past 100,000 signatures calling for Trump to be banned from a State visit to meet the Queen.

Gold-medal hero Sir Mo Farah has issued a strongly worded statement hours after the ban was enforced saying: "I am a British citizen who has lived in America for the past six years - working hard, contributing to society, paying my taxes and bringing up our four children in the place they now call home.

“Now, me and many others like me are being told that we may not be welcome.

“It's deeply troubling that I will have to tell my children that Daddy might not be able to come home - to explain why the President has introduced a policy that comes from a place of ignorance and prejudice."

Mo then took to Facebook minutes later, saying: "On January 1 this year, Her Majesty The Queen made me a Knight of the Realm. On January 27, President Donald Trump seems to have made me an alien."

Theresa May has since ordered Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson and Home Secretary Amber Rudd to phone American colleagues to clarify the US travel ban.

Citizens of Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen, have been temporarily barred from entering the US along with all refugees.

Sir Mo is currently training in Ethiopia and is uncertain as to how he can travel home to wife Tania and their four children in Portland, Oregon.

The athelete became a British citizen when he moved to the UK from Somalia aged eight.

A representative for Sir Mo said: "We are seeking to clarify the situation with the US authorities.

"Mo is currently at a training camp and is not planned to return to the US for a number of weeks.

"However, as I'm sure you can appreciate, he and Tania want to understand the direct impact on them (if any) as a matter of urgency."
