Millions of shoppers are making use of store’s click and collect service, which allows customers to buy items online and pick them up in their chosen store.
But many firms are experiencing high demand from online sales and customers face chaos over collection time slots and home deliveries.
John Lewis told Mail Online it has now extended its service to 8pm on Friday.
Sainsbury’s click and collect slots on Friday are all booked up and limited home deliveries are available.
Only a few slots remain at Tesco over the next couple of days.
“We are pleased to confirm that we will extend the ordering cut off date to 8pm on 23rd December for pre-Christmas collection in all John Lewis shops,” a spokeswoman for John Lewis told Mail Online.
“The cut off date for ordering to collect at Waitrose shops remains the 22nd December, in line with previous years.”
A Tesco spokeswoman said: “The last day to collect Tesco grocery Click+Collect orders is 23 December. Due to high demand, there are now a very limited number of Click+Collect slots available over the next couple of days. The service will resume on 27 December.
“For non-grocery items, Tesco Direct customers are able to collect in store up to and including Christmas Eve. The deadline for ordering online, to guarantee delivery in store before Christmas, is 5pm on 22 December.”
Clodagh Moriarty, online director at Sainsbury’s said: “We’re gearing up for a Click and Collect Christmas, with more customers than ever choosing to pick up their Christmas food shop from one of our 140 Click & Collect locations.
“Our online grocery home delivery service is set for a record Christmas. We have created more delivery slots this year than ever before to serve the increasing amount of customers who are choosing to shop online for home delivery.”
Argos and Amazon are also running to tight deadlines to cope with the demand and will be taking orders up to Christmas Eve afternoon.
Shoppers can stock up on all their festive needs on December 24, Christmas Eve, with large stores and express stores both opening from 6am until 10pm.
Normal trading is set to resume until New Years Eve, December 31, when most supermarkets will be open from 6am to 7pm.
Express stores will be open from 7am to 10pm.
