The Icelandic centre-forward has pledged his support towards the Brazilian side in the wake of the plane crash disaster last week.
He becomes the latest footballer to offer his services to play for the side, with ex-Barcelona team-mate Ronaldinho and Argentinian hero Juan Roman Riquelme also declaring their availability.
The prospect of past legends of the game teaming up in in the midst of such a tragic incident is an exciting thought, with the former Chelsea man keen to reunite with the Brazilian trickster.
Gudjohnsen posted on twitter: “Out of respect I would play for Chapecoense if they have a place for me! If not just to play with Ronaldinho again.”
Chapecoense were due to face Colombian side Atletico Nacional in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana final, but the plane they were on board sadly crashed leaving most of the squad dead.
Their opponents subsequently have appealed to CONMEBOL, the South American governing body, to award the trophy to them out of respect.
Brazilian sides have offered to send free loan players to Chapecoense, and there have also been calls to introduce a rule that restricts them from being relegated from the top-flight for the next three seasons.
The world of football has joined together in solidarity towards the club, with the effect of the disaster sending shock waves across the game.
Gudjohnsen was last in action playing for Indian side Pune City, and the 38-year-old could add Brazil to the list of countries he has featured in, having played in England, Spain, France, Greece, China, Norway, Holland, Belgium and Iceland.
