Why You Should Buy Mercedes-Benz SL500

Mercedes-Benz SL500

Mercedes-Benz SL500 is on the road. Here are some of the qualifying reason you always should consider buying it:

1. It’s sheer class. The SL is style on wheel personified. From its earliest generation, launched way back in 1954, the SL has always been about cruising in style – and this latest version is no different. You could be driving it in double denim, with socks and sandals and you’d still exude enough style to be the most attractive person on the road.

2. And class is permanent. This might be a revised version of the sixth generation, but its appeal is undiminished. A few tweaks to the design (a new grille, new LED headlights an rear lights) add an elementof modernity to the classic look of the long bonnet and the set-back cabin. It’s still very much an eye-catching car.

3. Cruise in comfort. The cabin has received some upgrades, too, with a flat-bottomed steering wheel adding a sporty element to the luxury of the leather-swathed cabin. This is lovely place in which to spend some time.

4. New technology. There’s lots of useful new tech in the cabin, too, with connectivity features such as Apple CarPlay, along with the likes of satellite navigation, Bluetooth and DAB digital radio. Plus there’s an embedded SM card, so there’s permanent connectivity and access to the Mercedes Me suite services, which include emergency call, accident recovery and breakdown services.

5. Cracking engine. What you want in a convertible cruiser is a throbbing, pulsating V8 engine to provide an exhilarating soundtrack when the roof is down. And guess what? The SL500 has just that, pumping out a monumental 449bhp that shifts the car from 0 to 62mph in just 4.3 seconds. Suffice to say, it’s a lot of fun.

6. Fun to drive, too. OK, so it's more of a grand tourer than an out-and-out sports car, but it’s still an enjoyable and pretty engaging drive. It's best at fast cruising, but it can handle itself well in the corners – although provoking that V8 too much can get the rear wheels slip-sliding about in the corners. An adaptive suspension system also helps switch driving modes, depending on your mood and the road conditions.

7. Safety first, though. Although a fun luxury cruiser, the SL is also fitted with plenty of kit to help you stay safe, including a dizzying array of features such as collision prevention assist plus, active brake assist, pre-safe, and blind spot and lane keeping assist systems.
