Virgin Media has announced 4G data plans that include free WhatsApp messaging and rollover data.
The telecoms giant has announced it has "zero rated" messages from the two social media services sent over the new 4G network, meaning they will not eat into into users' monthly data allowance.
The firm also said it was introducing "data rollover" to its 4G mobile plans, meaning any data allowance left over at the end of each month will be carried over to the next. Users will be sent a text message when data is being rolled over, and another once it has been used.
Firstly, the new data options all come with free WhatsApp data, meaning users will be able to send messages, pictures and videos through WhatsApp and Messenger without eating into their monthly data allowance.
Although WhatsApp messages themselves don't use lots of data, sending images and video can start to take a big bite out of your allowance.
There's also good news for those who don't much through all of their allocated 4G data as Virgin is rolling over anything that's unused.
This means that any mobile data remaining at the end of a month is transferred into the next month’s data allowance.
To keep tabs on all of this data, customers will receive a text when data is being rolled over and another text when all the leftover data has been used.
Virgin Media is one of the last mobile operators to launch 4G, after it was first introduced to the UK by rival EE in 2012. O2 and Vodafone began using 4G technology in 2013.
Virgin Media said pay monthly data plans on the new connection will start at £6 a month, rising to £25 a month for 5,000 minutes, unlimited texts and 20GB of data.
