travel apps

EU to ablish roaming charges from June 2017 and to take advantage of this, here are a list of some of the most useful travel apps you should download.

Huggle

First up is the social-networking app called Huggle. The app is ideal for people travelling alone as it allows them to discover and connect with people who are going to the same places as you.

PackPoint

PackPoint asks you to input where you are travelling to, how long for and what you plan to do there.

The app will then suggest a list of all the things you need to pack for your holiday.

HotelTonight

For the more spontaneous travellers there is the HotelTonight app, which promises to take the stress away from last minute travels.

The app is an easy way to book hotels at amazing last-minute rates anywhere in the world.

AppInTheAir

This app is described as the “responsible parent” when travelling. AppInTheAir can automatically check-in holidaymakers as well as send a reminder when your gate is closing.

You can also plug in any flight number and the app will allow you to track, waiting times for check-in, security, customs as well as boarding and landing times.

But the best part is the app even works offline.

This app is the equivalent to a life-size travel scrapbook. As you visit various destinations and places of interest, travellers can annotate it with notes, recommendations, reviews and even see what others have written.

CityMaps

CityMaps is more than just your average mobile map. It offers a more personalised recommendations of hidden gems en route to any destination around the world and the directions are precise.

And the most useful part of the app is that you can pre-plan journeys, save them and access them offline.

GoGoBot

This apps takes your interests, time of day, local weather and of location into consideration before showing you the best attractions, events, restaurants and hotels. It also lets you compare prices.

Google Translate

This is probably one of the most practical and essential travel apps - especially if you are travelling to a country where English is not commonly spoken language.

The app instantly translates text from an image captured on your camera. So you can essentially hold your camera up to a menu and be able to read it in English or whatever language you wish to.

Splittr

The ideal app for splitting bills when travelling in a group. The app allows travellers to note down expenses and notifies the group on who’s turn it is to pay next and even tells you who owes what to who.

SitOrSquat

The toilet app for your travels. SitOrSquat highlights the nearest public toilets and rates them based on cleanliness and hygiene.

The app codes the bathrooms which are safe to use in green (sit) and those that you should avoid in red (squat).
