Wayne Rooney has brilliantly answered to his critics and became Manchester United’s all-time leading European scorer in the process as Jose Mourinho’s side thrashed Feyenoord.
The England striker scored his 39th goal in Europe when he delicately lifted the ball over Brad Jones after Zlatan Ibrahimovic played him through on goal.
Rooney then turned provider for Juan Mata in the second half when he played a sensational reverse pass into the path of the Spaniard who couldn’t miss.
Ibrahimovic was keen to get in on the scoring action and his cross hit the heel of former Liverpool keeper Brad Jones before ricocheting into his own net to put the game beyond doubt.
Jesse Lingard then completed the rout with a fine left-footed strike in the dying embers of the game.
