James Anderson to return in England Cricket team ahead of India tour.
Anderson, his country's all-time leading bowler with 463 Test wickets, has been out for three months with a shoulder injury that not only saw him miss the recent drawn series in Bangladesh but also raised fears he would be ruled out of the entire winter.
Yet after working his way back to fitness in the nets at home, the leader of England's attack will fly out to Rajkot on Tuesday with a view to playing in the second Test at Visakhapatnam starting on November 17.
Ahead of a daunting series against the world's No1 side, Anderson's return is a huge psychological boost for captain Alastair Cook and his players.
"It's really good news," said Cook. "He's worked incredibly hard to get back.
"It's great that he's put the effort in - rather than maybe take the easy option and come back in July, he wants to make a difference in this series. Just chatting to him, the second Test is a good possibility."
Anderson, 34, has not played since England's final Test of the summer against Pakistan at The Oval in August.
