iPhone Users Report Battery Failure 30% After Downloading Latest iOS Upgrade

iPhone

Keeping your iPhone up-to-date in the software stakes may come at the expensive of battery life.

That's the message coming from several users posting on the official Apple forum regarding the latest version of iOS.

One user posted a query saying that after updating to iOS 10.1.1 their phone kept dying when there's still 30% of battery life remaining.

The forum thread runs to eleven pages of replies.

Here's what user Mjolcresure posted:

"Updated my iPhone 5 to iOS10.1 and have been having battery problems.

1 - It jumps from 30% charge to 1% in a few seconds then shuts down.

Now here is the stranger part.

As soon as it reboots after connecting to a charger it show 30% charge. When I unplug it right away it still shows 30% and runs like nothing happened for a good few hours.

So it goes from zero charge to 30% in the time it takes to reboot? Strange.

2 - Shutting the phone down at night with a good 80% charge, it won't reboot in the morning due to no battery charge. I plug it in and its back to 30% in a few seconds."

Apple's latest iOS update is a fairly minimal release. It's meant to fix a few bugs and sort out the Apple Health data for some users having trouble viewing it.

"I'm having the identical issue after upgrading yesterday to 10.1.1...battery suddenly dies at 30%...I have no idea why...I even did a full wipe and it's still doing it...I'm using a 6S and my phone is only like 6 momths old and was working perfectly before the upgrade," wrote another user.

Other members of the forum have said that Apple engineers are aware of a problem and are working on a fix.
