Fabric To Reopen After Nightclub Wins Its Appeal

Fabric Nightclub

Fabric is set to reopen after successfully appealing the decision to revoke the nightclub’s licence.

Following crunch talks, the London venue will reopen its doors – but strict rules will be enforced.

Under-19s will not be allowed entry, and a CCTV operator will watch live footage to ensure no ‘criminality’ is taking place, The Islington Gazette reported.

Specialist roles have been created to prevent drugs getting inside, and to help anyone showing signs of illness.

And anyone found with drugs faces a lifetime ban. The Farringdon nightclub had its license revoked after the drug-related deaths of two teenagers this year.

But the closure sparked massive protests and a campaign to save the venue, while becoming a symbol of the capital’s diminishing nightlife.

Secret talks between Fabric’s lawyers and Islington Council have taken place with the aim of rescuing the club.

And after the hearing, district judge Robin McPhee agreed that Fabric can reopen.

Superintendent Nick Davies, from Islington police, said: ‘Police will continue to robustly enforce the licensing objectives of preventing crime and disorder and maintaining public safety.

‘We will be monitoring the ongoing conduct of Fabric and the activities that take place within it. If there are further breaches of the licence, Fabric should be in no doubt that they will be challenged by Islington police and action taken.

‘I know Fabric is a venue that holds a great deal of affection in people’s hearts. We had no choice but to take action to safeguard clubbers and now Fabric has agreed to considerable changes I hope the venue can continue to operate for many years to come within the boundaries of the new licensing conditions.’

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan led the celebrations on social media.
