David Haye To Fight Against Tony Bellew

David Haye

David Haye is set to fight Tony Bellew in an all-British showdown in March.

The pair have had a long-running feud and will enter the ring at heavyweight on March 4 at the O2 Arena.

The explosive bout is Haye's biggest since returning to the ring earlier this year.

WBC cruiserweight champion Bellew called Haye out following his victory over BJ Flores back in October but the Scouser will be the underdog as he makes the step-up in weight.

"It is like a chihuahua fighting a pitbull," Haye said.

“Bellew is completely delusional if he thinks he can beat me. He still thinks he's on the set of Creed and there will be some kind of Rocky style happy ending. But come March 4th, I will bring reality crashing down on him.

"I’ve earned my credentials the hard way inside the ring, not on film sets.

"There will be no second takes, no stunt men taking the blows and no flashing lights on the red carpet, the only lights Bellew will see are those of the spot lights shining down on him when he wakes up from his nap on the canvas.”

The pair continued their war of words on Sky Sports News with Haye insisting Bellew couldn't hit hard enough to hurt him.

“I’m going to corner you and destroy you. He’s never going to be hit by anyone as hard as I hit him."

Despite being required to make the step-up in weight, world champion Bellew remained in confident mood.

He became world champion by defeating Ilunga Makabu at the home of boyhood club Everton, Goodison Park back in May and knows it is another big risk.

"I'm not under any illusions, I know exactly what I am going up against, it's big risk, big reward," he said.

“I cop him with my best punch, he's going to sleep. He cops me with his best punch, more than likely I am going to sleep too.

"I know what I am up against but the big factor for me is, I'm a very active fighter, I've had no breaks and I've got very little wear and tear on me. If it comes down to a question of heart and determination I win hands down. If it comes down to one punch, it's a 50-50.

"He has got power but he is there to be hit. You are fighting me because you are broke. I am the biggest fight you've had since Wladimir Klitschko and you didn't fight him, you danced around him.

“You’re a joke, a clown. The sooner I take you out of boxing and get rid of you, the better."

Promoter Eddie Hearn added: "This is just a huge, huge fight. One of the best heavyweights in the world against the best cruiserweight in the world. An explosion of concussive punchers riddled with bad blood and desperate to score a knockout victory.

"The build-up will be electric as will fight night, I like millions of fight fans around the world cannot wait."
