Why Wayne Rooney Must Stay at Manchester United

Wayne Rooney must stay at Manchester United 'until he dies' because he's a 'club icon', according to Red Devils loanee Andreas Pereira.

The United and England skipper has endured a frustrating start to the season, losing his place in the first team after a string of poor performances prompted heavy criticism.

Despite his underwhelming form the 30-year-old, who missed Sunday's 4-0 defeat to Chelsea with a thigh injury, has the backing of Jose Mourinho and insists he wants to fight for his place.

And Pereira, the Brazilian midfielder on loan from Old Trafford to Spanish side Granada, the club just wouldn't be the same without England's leading goalscorer.

'He is the club's icon,' the 20-year-old told the Mail on Sunday.

'You can't take him away from Manchester United. It will not be the same Manchester United without Wayne Rooney.

'He has to stay there until he dies.'
