These are the countries considered to be safer than the UK

A latest report revealed world's safest countries, while UK's position is shocking.

If you’re a nervous traveller, you may want to read the new report by the World Economic Forum.

The results in the foundation's latest biennial Travel and Tourism report show which countries in the world are the safest.

Finland came out on top with Qatar and UAE coming in second and third place.

The UK did fare too well placing at number 73.

And some of the countries deemed safer than the UK may come as a surprise. Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan and even Rwanda placed higher on the list for safety than the UK.

The report states that the results take into account "the costliness of common crime and violence as well as terrorism, and the extent to which police services can be relied upon to provide protection from crime."

Bottom of the list is Nigeria, followed by Colombia, Yemen, Pakistan and Venezuela. It should be noted that certain countries such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Ukraine, Libya, and North Korea.

1: Finland - rating: 6.7

2: Qatar - 6.61

3: UAE - 6.6

4: Iceland - 6.5

5: Austria - 6.47

6: Luxembourg - 6.46

7: New Zealand - 6.41

8: Singapore - 6.4

9: Oman - 6.38

10: Portugal - 6.33
