Jessica Ennis-Hill is set to say goodbye to her fans in Manchester in a parade arranged for Team GB.
She says "I've achieved all I wanted to and more".
The decision to retire from athletics was "difficult" Jessica Ennis-Hill has said, but added that she felt the time was right to bow out of the sport.
The 30-year-old, who won Olympic gold in the heptathlon at London 2012 and silver at Rio 2016, said she will miss the sport, but felt it was time to enjoy what she had achieved.
The two-time world champion told ITV she was tempted to stay in the sport until next year so that she could compete in the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Championships in London, but said she had already had "the pinnacle" of her career, and that nothing would "ever top that".
"I felt that I had achieved all I wanted to achieve and more in the sport, and this was the time to move onto something new and leave on a high", she said.
Ennis-Hill said she would not go into coaching after having a "relax" and "some family time", but instead wanted to focus on getting more people into sport.
The heptathlete will join Great Britain's Olympic and Paralympic stars for a parade through Manchester on Monday and London on Tuesday.
