Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool were equally interested to signing Brozovic, according to TransferMarketWeb.
Meanwhile the midfielder's agent, Miroslav Bicanic, claimed his client rejected a lucrative deal from Antonio Conte's Chelsea.
But any hope of signing Brozovic in January has been extinguished with Inter Milan preparing a new five-year contract with a buy-out clause worth £42m, reports in Italy claim.
The new deal will include a significant wage hike from £22,000-per-week to £40,000-a-week and extend his stay until June 2021.
His representative Bicanic told Goal that Brozovic is happy with Inter and will sign an extension when he returns from international duty.
He said: "Yes, it is official Brozo will stay in Inter. Otherwise, he would have been on the plane to London and not with national team in Sisak.
"After he returns from Croatia, Marcelo will sign a new, improved contract with Inter.
"With it he will earn less than he would have if he had signed for Chelsea, but he feels comfortable in Inter, he knows the city and the club will play in Europa League.
"He didn't want to rush to England because there is a new coach Frank De Boer at Inter."
