Former England boss Steve McClaren has enrolled at university as he plans to become a chief executive at a football club.
The 55-year-old admits he still has ambitions of being a manager after being sacked as Newcastle boss in Mparch, but is making plans for life after the dugout.
McClaren will study for a Masters degree in Sporting Directorship at Manchester Metropolitan University and he has outlined ambitions of running a football club in the future.
The former Derby and Middlesbrough boss told the BBC: "The next step in the future will be as a chief executive or sporting director, or even running my own club.
"To do that I had to acquire different skills and go back to school. It's probably old age. I always wanted to coach and manage. I know that won't last forever.
"I still have a few years left in me yet on the field.
"I have had offers from abroad, but nothing that appeals. I don't want to go to China. I feel I have something to offer here. If not here, then in Europe."
McClaren is one of a crux of former sportsmen to enrol on the course, including ex-Bolton striker Kevin Davies, former England rugby union winger Mark Cueto, Blackpool boss Gary Bowyer and St Helens rugby league chief exec Mike Rush.
Former England cricket spinner Ashley Giles is among the course's alumni.
