Petrol and diesel prices set to rise

Petrol and diesel prices are set to rise again.

The average price of petrol and diesel sold on Britain's forecourts edged up in August, new figures show.

A litre of unleaded rose by 0.3p during the month to £1.12, according to RAC data.

Diesel finished the month up 0.8p at £1.13, close to its highest price of the year.

These increases cancelled out the fall in prices enjoyed by motorists in July.

RAC fuel spokesman said: "We are thankfully still a little way off the sorts of average prices we saw earlier in 2015 when petrol hit £1.17 per litre and diesel nearly £1.21 per litre."

There has been speculation that oil output could be curbed, leading to an increase in prices.

But no caps on production have been agreed and supply is still outpacing demand.
