The Italians must be fallen in love with the Chinese made Techrules GT96.
Techrules may not sound to you like the most promising name for a supercar maker. But Giugiaro will surely sound like a promising name for the styling team behind its first product.
Like most new supercar makers, Techrules is from China. And like most new Chinese supercar makers (you know, as opposed to the other kind) it’s steeped in alternative fuel.
The company’s GT96 concept, which it unveiled at Geneva this year, is powered by an array of six motors linked to a gas turbine range extender. Techrules says this means less batteries are needed – hence less weight.
When it comes to the company’s claimed system output and performance figures, prepare to roll your eyes. Techrules speaks of 1030bhp, 2.5 seconds and 217mph.
Claims like that are all too common from brave new supercar heroes who go on to never be heard of again. But as well as Giugiaro, Techrules has engaged Italian engineering concern LM Gianetti to build the production model.
It has a range of more than 1200 miles.
If they can make that a reality, expect the GT96 to get rather a lot of attention when it makes its next appearance at Geneva next year.
