Don't book your flights to AUSTRALIA without visa

Australia

Australia has a native connection to the Britain. So Britons love to visit Australia without visa. However there is a new restriction is on the way.

Booking a holiday outside of Europe can pose certain restrictions as you may need to apply for short-term visas.

Even those just wishing to enjoy a short weekend break to America may not be granted access to the country if you have a criminal record.

And Australia also enforce similar restrictions.

If you are a UK or EU citizen and want to travel to Australia for business or leisure, you can apply for an eVistor visa.

This allows you to visit Australia for up to three months at any time during a 12-month period.

But to be eligible for this, you must not have ANY criminal convictions for which the sentence or sentences are for a total of 12 months duration or more.

This applies even if the full 12 months was not served.

You will not be eligible for an eVisitor visa if:

  • You have a conviction that resulted in a prison sentence of 12 months or more (regardless of the time served)

  • You have been convicted for two or more offences and the combined length of all your sentences amounts to 12 months or more (regardless of the time served)

  • You have a suspended prison sentence where the period you would have served, had it not been suspended, was 12 months or more.
Australia

If you are not able to get an eVisitor visa, you may be able to apply for a full tourist visa through the Australian embassy.

The Australian authorities will take your criminal record into account when determining whether you are a 'good character'. They tend to show concern if you have what they define as a substantial criminal record.

This usually applies to a sentence of life imprisonment, a sentence of 12 months or more, an acquittal on the ground of either unsoundness of mind or insanity or a current or previous association with an individual, group or organisations involved in criminal conduct.

If your visa application is cancelled on the grounds you have a substantial criminal record or due to past or present criminal conduct, you will be PERMANENTLY excluded from entering Australia.
