Dal Balti Recipe

Dal Balti

Here is how to make Dal Balti.

INGREDIENTS

  1. Masoor dal ½ cup (soaked)

  2. Moong dal ½ cup (soaked)

  3. Green onion 2 (sliced)

  4. Green chilies 4

  5. Tomato 3

  6. Capsicum 1 (chopped)

  7. Fenugreek leaves 2 tbsp

  8. Mustard seeds ¼ tsp

  9. Nigella seeds ¼ tsp

  10. Cumin 1 tbsp

  11. Red chili powder 1 tsp

  12. Salt to taste

  13. Turmeric ½ tsp

  14. Garlic 2 cloves

  15. Oil ¼ cup

For Baghar:

  1. Oil ½ cup

  2. Onion 1

  3. Green coriander handful

  4. Cumin ½ tsp

METHODS

  1. Heat oil in a pan, mix in red chili powder then add green onion, green chili, tomato, capsicum, fenugreek leaves, mustard leaves, nigella seeds, cumin, red chili powder, salt and turmeric.

  2. Stir it to make a nice mixture of masala. Add a splash of water if masala burnt.

  3. Add masoor dal and moong dal with 2 cups of water. Cover and cook until lentil soft.

  4. For Baghar: In separate pan heat oil add onion, garlic and cumin. Sizzle it and pour over prepared dal. Top with coriander leaves and serve.
