Arsene Wenger hopes his successor can do better than him

Arsene Wenger personally believes his successor can do better than him.

As the French coach celebrates 20 years since his appointment as Arsenal manager, he was asked to look to the future and predict what will happen when he leaves.

'There will be no financial scandal when I leave. The club is on a good footing,' he told BeIN Sport.

'It has good players and a strong team. The club has moved forwards a lot during my time and hopefully the next manager can come in and do even better than I did – that's all I wish.'

It's possible that new manager could be arriving before too long, with Wenger's contract expiring at the end of the season. The 66-year-old has made a habit of leaving it late to commit his future to the club, but there is a growing sense this could be his last season at the helm.

Among the favourites to replace Wenger when he goes are Joachim Lowe, Diego Simeone and Eddie Howe.
