Want to avoid hidden TRAVEL COSTS? Then read this guide carefully

Want to avoid hidden TRAVEL COSTS then read this guide carefully

It’s all too easy for holiday costs to quickly add up.

After adding up a huge amount of bill after your name then you might be thinking "OOH, WHY DON'T I MADE IT EARLIER ON?"

Booking flights isn’t the most exact of sciences, but there are certainly ways to make sure you’re getting the best bang for your buck.

This helpful guide from flight search website Cheapflights breaks down every airlines hidden costs and how to avoid them.

Although all airlines state the costs of your flight before you book, and break down the charges on their websites — consumers may still feel stung by what seems to be a hidden cost.

And every airline is different, levying different fees for different classes and ticket types too.

If you need to change your flight date, or any of the details of your booking you could expect an extra fee.

So this infographic by Cheapflights.co.uk breaks down the different fees for each of Britain’s top 20 airlines.

Stay flexible

It’s advisable to book a flexible ticket if you think you may need to change travel plans before you fly, as flexi-tickets often have a built in buffer which allows you to make a certain number of tweaks at no extra cost.

For example, many airlines — including Qantas, Norwegian and Qatar — offer a full refund if choose not to fly and have booked an Economy Flex ticket.

Whereas in comparison you could be charged £300 for a cancelled ticket with Qantas, and Norwegian standard economy fares are non-refundable.

Make changes online

If you do need to make changes, you should do so online.

Because typically there are added fees when you make changes over the phone or when you are at the airport.

And regardless of how you make your changes, make sure you take proof of identity — particularly if you plan to make changes to your name.
