Here are the 10 jobs that you do not need a qualification for apply for:

1. Chicken Sexer

It might sound like an odd career choice, but checking the gender of chickens can be surprisingly lucrative and you don’t need any experience or qualifications.

All you need is good eyesight, patience and nimble hands because you’ll be expected to look at up to 1,000 chicks per hour for a 12 hour shift.

Training is provided on the job and you can net a £40,000 wage each year.

2. Mining Construction

Mining construction can be hard work and you’ll be away from home for months at a time but it pays well.

The work is mainly overseas so anyone thinking of getting into mining has to be willing to work abroad – often places like South America, Australia and Africa.

Lots of applicants have degrees in subjects like civil engineering, geology or minerals surveying, but you can get in with some related experience.

Expect a starting salary of £25,000 that can rise to £50,000 after roughly 10 years.

3. Prison Officer

As long as you don’t have any convictions and you can pass the background checks, anyone over the age of 18 can apply to work on the wards.

You'll have to take a Prison Officer Selection Test (POST), which asses skills including reading, writing, maths, aptitude and physical tests.

In England and Wales the starting salary is £18,720 but senior levels can net £33,000.

4. Domestic Staff

Tending to the needs of wealthy people doesn’t require any qualifications.

Although cleaners and gardeners might not necessarily make all that much, butlers or house managers can make more than £150,000 per year.

5. Sales Executive

As long as you’ve got the charm and can sell ice to Eskimos, that’s all you need to nab yourslef a sales job.

Once you’ve proven yourself in the interview, the starting salary is £12,000 but marketing and sales managers can be on as much as £100,000 a year.

Don’t forget that the commission will give you some extra spare change too.

6. Customer Services

In this industry it’s important to be organised and have people skills but you don’t need any official qualifications.

In an entry-level position you’ll only be taking home £18,000 but it’s easy to progress. Customer services managers can rake in £40,000.

7. Offshore Oil Worker

Working on an oil rig can be tough, and the dangers involved in the job mean that it’s highly paid.

Jobs include equipment maintenance, rig operations, drilling operations, and rig administration. Offshore rig workers can be at sea for months and work long 12-hour shifts.

Most people get a head-start through an apprenticeship scheme which requires four GCSEs but there are transition courses for people with relevant experience.

Offshore oil workers make an average of £50,000 a year.

8. Ethical Hacker

This job involves testing companies IT systems by hacking into them. Most skilled hackers are self-taught so it’s not an industry that requires exam results.

Pay packets start at £35,000 a year, rising to as much as £90,000.

9. Journalist

While lots of journalists do have degrees or an NCTJ qualification, you can still break into the industry if you have enough writing talent and have gained experience doing internships.

Unfortunately internships are often unpaid and starting salaries can be as low as £12,000 but the average salary of a journalist is £30,998 with some columnists making six figures.

10. Firefighter

Being physically fit and a quick-thinker is more important than any qualification if you want to be a firefighter.

During the application process you’ll have to pass a series of tests like a physical drill in full uniform.

The starting salary is £21,583, with crew managers earning around £30,000 and area managers making more than £50,000.
