Essential items such as banana peels and used tea bags can actually play an important role in your everyday beauty lifestyle.
Usually people don’t think twice about throwing these items away - but why not save the pennies, and do a bit of recycling at the same time, by adding these ingredients to your daily cleansing ritual.
It turns out you can look good for less by using these not-so-fresh natural household ingredients.
This comes after the correct way to eat olives with pits was revealed.
Tomatoes
If you’ve got a tomato you’re not going to eat, or it’s gone past its best before date, you can use it to help treat sunburn.
Tomatoes have an antioxidant in them which can help sooth it. Mix the tomato into a paste and then smother it on the affected area.
Milk
If you have milk which isn’t fresh, but also doesn’t smell stale, you can add it to the water in your bath, rather than throwing it out.
Milk is packed with lactic acid which can be good to soften and exfoliate skin.
Banana peels
There are lots of recipes to make home made banana face masks online, but you can make use of the skin too.
The peel is full of fruit acid which works to help exfoliate the skin.
To do this, cut off a small piece and rub it over your face every couple of days. Your skin will end up more nourished and softer.
Tea bags
Damp teabags can be used to help calm down tired eyes, and can also be used on other areas of the skin which are itchy or irritated after shaving.
Make sure the teabag has cooled though before sticking it on the problem area.
Coffee granules
For those who drink coffee, once you’ve used the granules you can leave them to dry out and then mix them with some water to create a paste.
This can help soothe puffy eyes, or you can pop coffee bags on, like teabags, for around 15 minutes.
You can also add the granules to oil which can make a good face scrub.
Avocado
If your avocado’s gone brown, instead of throwing it away you can mash it up and use it as a face mask.
Avocados have anti-ageing properties so they can leave your akin looking rejuvenated.
You can also mash up an avocado and put it in your hair. Leave it for 15 minutes and it will banish any frizz.
