cheap holiday

FROM the white sandy beaches of Asia to the bustling cities in South America, here are the seven best bargain hotspots in the world.

Whether you're looking for an off-the-beaten-track adventure or a lazy week on the beach, there are a whole host of beautiful places that won't break the bank.

You have to take a lot into account when budgeting for a break abroad. How much are flights? How expensive is accommodation? And how much spending money will you need when you get there?

After all, you don't want to book a bargain package holiday only to find out that a glass of wine is going to cost you the earth.

So to make your life easier, travel comparison site Skyscanner scoured the globe for the cheapest choices for 2016.

Here are seven of the world's cheapest (and most beautiful) destinations:

1. CAMBODIA

CAMBODIA

Home to Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world, a host of beautiful sandy beaches and delicious food, Cambodia is the perfect holiday hotspot.

With beds for £1 and food for even less than that, it's also one of the cheapest places in the world. Entry to UNESCO world heritage site Angkor Wat costs just £13 for a full day or £26 for three days.

2. VIETNAM

VIETNAM

Hanoi, the stunning capital of Vietnam, has been named the best value destination in the world for a city break, according to Tripadvisor.

But the whole county is cheap as chips. Skyscanner estimates that you could get by on £5 a day including a guest house, local food, transport and the odd drink.

In fact, you can snap up a pint of their local brew, Bia Hoi, for just 50p.

While you're in Vietnam Ha Long Bay is a must and you should also experience rural life and see the lush, green rice terraces in and around the former French moutnain resort of Da Lat in the central highlands.

3. INDIA

INDIA

While your flights to India might cost a fair bit, when you're there you can live on virtually nothing. Even if you travel first class on trains and take taxis everywhere you will struggle to spend more than £15 a day.

If you're flying into Deli make sure you take a trip to nearby Agra to see India's most famous monument – the Taj Mahal.

For culture visit the Pink City in Jaipur and if you're looking for a beach break the white sandy beaches of Kerala in southern India are stunning.

4. HUNGARY

HUNGARY

With meals for £2, train tickets for £1 and rooms for £10, Budapest is a bargain. The historic Hungarian capital is fast becoming one of Europe's most popular city break destinations and with good reason.

If you want to escape the city check out Lake Balaton in Transdanubia, which is popular holiday spot for locals.

5. BOLIVIA

BOLIVIA

Bolivia boasts the best value food and drink in all of South America. A bottle of Paceña beer generally costs less than £1 and a bowl of chairo (potato soup) about the same. Accommodation is also ridiculously cheap all over Bolivia.

La Paz, the highest administrative capital in the world, is buzzing with markets, unusual street food and bars.

And if you want to escape the city take a three day jeep tour to Salar de Uyuni, the world's largest salt flats. The stunning lakes and mountains along the way will take your breath away.

6. BULGARIA

BULGARIA

The Black Sea resorts in Bulgaria are fast becoming popular for British tourists and it's one of the cheapest places to stay in Europe.

Soak up some summer sun on Liulin Beach, with its three outdoor swimming pools, a sand area and a football field it's a winner with the Brits.

If you want to head somewhere with a bit more culture go to Nesebar, a UNESCO World Heritage site a few hours south of Varna. The coastal spot is also great for snorkelling.

If you prefer city breaks to beaches, you can get a hotel for around £20 a night in the capital Sofia.

7. SRI LANKA

SRI LANKA

With white sandy beaches, crystal clear water, tea plantations and lush jungle, Sri Lanka is a picture perfect paradise.

But the idillic destination comes with a delightfully small price tag and you can live like royalty for less than £25 a day.

Five-star resort Cinnamon Lodge, which features views over the tropical Habarana Lake and rooms with private jacuzzis, costs as little as £42 a night.

And if you can tear yourself away from the breathtaking beaches, the island in the Indian Ocean has a whole host of stunning temples to explore.
