Team GB claim its eighth gold of Rio 2016 in men's eight

TEAM GB's men's eight have won a stunning gold medal at the Rio Olympics.

Scott Durant, Tom Ransley, Andrew T Hodge, Matt Gotrel, Pete Reed, Paul Bennett, Matt Langridge, William Satch and cox Phelan Hill produced an exceptional race at the Lagoa.

The world champions led from start to finish to beat Germany who claimed silver while the Netherlands finished with bronze.

It's Team GB's third gold in the rowing at the Games and followed the women's eight's silver just minutes before.

Bennett: "That was a really tough race. The nerves were going mental but as soon as we finished the feeling is incredible after everything we went through.

"Thank you to everyone who has put up with me."

And Reed added: "I can't put it into words. I am just thinking how grateful to the coach and crew I am.

"We've never been so ready. They're an amazing bunch of guys that was a big, big, race."

Great Britain have now won eight golds in Rio and have a total of 24 medals so far to lie third in the overall table.
