Average ISA rates drops to record low: Blowing A Thumbsup For Savers

ISA

Average ISA rates are set to below than the normal level.

The average easy access savings account now pays just 0.5 per cent, down from 0.66 per cent a year ago, according to analysis by Moneyfacts.co.uk.

The average easy access ISA has a rate of just 0.87 per cent, from 1.11 per cent a year ago.

It comes after the Bank of England cut interest rates earlier this month from 0.5 per cent to 0.25 per cent.

There has since been a whopping 285 rate cuts and 20 best buy deals completely pulled from the market, Moneyfacts data shows.

Savers have now been urged to look beyond the big high street names to get the best possible returns.

The top easy access account from RCI Bank UK pays 1.2 per cent, while the best easy access ISA is from Melton Mowbray Building Society with a rate of 1.25 per cent.

Returns from money held in ISAs is also tax-free, meaning they should still be the first port of call for savers - in spite of the Personal Savings Allowance (PSA), which means the first £1,000 of cash returns are tax free.
